The two maps below show what happened after the landing of Turkish troops on Cyprus in July / August 1974. The result was the ethnic cleansing of the northern part i.e. removal of the Christian - Greek people who were replaced in the following years by Turks who were transferred or immigrated directly from Turkey - hence a formal double invasion of troops as a starter and proper turkish colonization subsequently. Original Turkish-Cypriots became a minority in the north and many emigrated to England, Australia and elsewhere. The lapse of time has proved that the initial intention of the invaders had been the total control on the island through the imposition of forced peace based on the heavily armed Goliath's rule over a young extra small republic counting just fourteen years of independence.

In fact the whole operation of 1974 was codenamed ''Attila operation" (probably in remembrance of that fearsome ruler of the Huns during the years 434 to 453 AD and his battles against the then Roman empire.) That was the "Peace operation" as such was described by Turkey. Or the "Force my interpretation of peace - by all means" as was really the case.
